This is Margaret. She is an Illustrator Artist where I also show at Blue Skies Gallery in Hampton, Virginia. She had asked me to take an image of a canvas she finished and I thought it would be a great idea to try shoot the many different types of Artwork we have in the gallery as a possible promo. I brought in a Flashpoint 600 WS strobe and a new Glow 42 inch parabolic soft-box. Added some wheels to the light stand and we went around the gallery seeing what else we could shoot.
I decided she should stand in the light. This wasn't a real shoot as this was the second of the two only shots I took of her. I just said "Stand in front of the light. "No makeup, no hair styling, I cleaned up some frizzies. Got this very natural pose as she is as you might see her. I would have liked to shoot her more and manage the hair and maybe makeup and make it a real shoot. This just came off very genuine to me as I know her as a fellow artist.
Working with other artists that are not photographers has been a very enjoyable adventure. All sorts of gifted people all talking the same concepts but in different artistic languages. We can all learn from other Artists in different media. We all share the same passion. I work at the gallery 2 days a month with another artist that isn't always Margaret. I meet many others.
